Background to the event
Global Entrepreneurship Week is a combination and expansion of two successful initiatives: the Entrepreneurship Week USA in 2007 and the inspiration behind it, and Enterprise Week in the UK, which was started in 2004 by the former Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Last year, there were over 32,000 events run in 88 countries, attended by more than 7.5 million people.
For 2010, countries are coming together again to host Global Entrepreneurship Week, a global initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity. Peter Jones, entrepreneur and Enterprise UK Chair talking about the week of events says, “Entrepreneurs are not born, they are made. Entrepreneurship is a skill that can be taught just like any other. That’s why Global Entrepreneurship Week is so vital right now. To inspire thousands of people to pursue their ideas, to create jobs and to build global ambition among young people and business owners alike.” Honda Foundation has been the Japan Host of Global Entrepreneurship Week since 2009.
The goals of this event are to:
* inspire participants and positively changes their attitudes towards environmental entrepreneurship
* direct people to their next step in their enterprise journey
* include both Japanese and international perspectives
In the panel discussion, our target audience is business professionals with an interest in developing work and businesses in environmental/sustainability areas. The discussion will focus on:
* challenges in developing ideas into a business and growing the scale of the business
* opportunities in Japan for innovation and growth for businesses with an environmental focus
* what support has been important in the developing and growing of the business and what systems are desirable to encourage entrepreneurship
