Climate change, explosive population growth, a global food crisis, peak oil, peak water and increasing competition for limited resources, corporate greed, ecosystem degradation, war. The problems seem endless, overwhelming and impossible to solve. Society has to change on a grand scale.

Governments are waking up to the severity of the problems and businesses are acting to take advantage of the opportunities presented. However, these are not short-term issues, and we will need informed, knowledgeable leaders at all levels of society; people who can see the global picture and are prepared to take advantage of the opportunities that lie in wait.

Green jobs are expected to grow by 500% in the US alone over the next three decades. Renewable energy industries have shown some of the strongest, most consistent growth of any industry in history. In response to the financial crisis, Green New Deals have been launched around the world. The triple bottom lines of sustainability – people, planet and profits – will play a huge role in business in the coming decades.

Japan is rapidly making the transition from a “Grey Nation,” with a declining economy and aging population, to a “Green Nation” with advanced cleantech, green IT and world-leading environmental accounting and reporting. These advances mean that Japan will maintain its leadership in not just these areas but also in the field of sustainability as a whole. This poses unique opportunities for globally focused professionals here in Japan but also a major challenge in keeping up to date.

Combined Language and Sustainability Communications (CLSC) Training

In order to help you stay abreast of the latest developments and keep up with sustainability terminology in English and Japanese, eQualC Sustainability Communications presents combined language and sustainability communications workshops to help you green your career, improve your personal sustainability and equip you with essential knowledge to help you follow and take advantage of business and career opportunities presented by global trends.

Each workshop series will be limited to a total of 10 participants. There will be two series, one in English, one in Japanese, with bilingual support and terminology cheat sheets provided to participants in each.

The workshops cover international environmental and social trends in the areas of population growth, climate change, food, water, energy and resources, including the latest data from NASA, New Energy Finance and Clean Edge presented concisely and clearly. This course is tailored for easy comprehension, and no scientific or economic background is necessary.

In addition, each participant will take part in group work to create presentations for new and original concepts for sustainability projects. The presentations will be designed so that they can be delivered at future sustainability leadership seminars to leaders from businesses, government, and NGOs and NPOs in Japan.
